First order of the day – English breakfast of bangers, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms.
Second – walk to Bayswater tube station – oh –closed due to renovations for next year’s Olympics! Continue on to Hyde Park – check out Kensington Palace (Think I will stay there next time I’m over) gardens and gift-shop. Visit to Princess Di’s memorial fountain, then on in the pouring rain to Harrods. Had to wait 45 mins til they opened and then couldn’t buy anything for another 30 mins! – Sunday trading regulations in Britain!
Spent quite some time going round and round the shop – amazing things in there – had to say no tho’ to the gold plated and crystal encrusted bathroom rubbish bin at a mere £1900! (I said to Kim it would look great in her bathroom and she must get the toilet brush that goes with it)
Then off to the Ritz for a Devonshire Tea. However, we were told we were unsuitably dressed. ‘We have a dress code – no jeans or sports shoes’ (We looked hot with rain soaked hair and face - how dare they, not staying there next time over). The doorman did suggest we could go to Fortnum & Masons down the road who do not have a dress code!
Continued on (in the heavy rain) to Piccadilly to the best sportswear store ever – Lillywhites. Spent 2 hours there and have to go back tomorrow for more!
The rain didn’t get any better as we crossed the Thames to go see Haley (Sharon’s niece) who works in a pub in Waterloo on Webber Street – just about got blown off the bridge (and you think Wellington blows) Go London - I still think you rock! We looked really hot after that crossing (just picture us - jeans stuck to our legs, hair hanging limp and whatever you had on your face has long gone, stop laughing! We were hot and it was not just a menopause moment!) It is 4.15pm and we have been walking since 9.30am, who said old ladies can’t keep going?
Well tomorrow calls and we need our rest, so watch out London tomorrow a new exciting day! J
I saw the strategically placed Harrods bag!!! Great stuff =)
