Day 23 - COLOGNE TO BRUGGE

Freezing cold day today – rain greeted us this morning – decided to do a very quick tour of the Dom in Cologne then caught the train to Brugge in Belgium. Oh yes in the Dom there is the bones of the three wise men from the bible (apparentaly thery sold off some of the bones to fix up the Dom, they do say that maybe there was more then three wise men with the amount of bones that they sold off. Maybe they threw in the animals that were there with the wise men, just one of my theories)

Arrived into Brugge (via Brussels) and had only 2 minutes walk to our hotel. Interesting hotel – Etap at the station – the rooms are like pods with a double bed (Sharon’s cos she has a bad back!) and an overhead bunk bed (Kim’s cos she’s thoughtful!) Truthfully its because Kim has better hips!!!!!! It must all the golf she does, and the shower ( the shower head changes colour with the water pressure and Kim is going to but one, they are made in China though) and basin in the room – the toilet is in the corner but behind a door! It’s very strange but it’s a brand new building and clean and tidy and seems very full – 186 rooms! There’s one free computer which you seem to have to wait ages to get on or be very lucky as you walk by to find it unused. Pay for wireless in your room - $8 per hour!

Went into the centre of town and did a little recce in preparation for sightseeing tomorrow. The place is actually quite small so we saw a lot in a few hours.

Got totally ripped off for dinner – 3 wines, a coffee, spag bol for Sharon, French onion soup for me, and –‘would you like some garlic bread with that?’ well why not, we thought. Little did we know that the 10 tiny slices of garlic bread cost 10 Euros! The total bill for this HUGE meal??? – 51 Euros!! Equivalent of $90! The waiter, who thought he was hot stuff, said –‘ You are in the Marktplatz – that’s what you pay for’.
