Caught train from Rotterdam to Amsterdam (isn’t that a song?) in the morning and had a very swift intro to the city.
Took a scenic cruise on the canals for an hour, checking out the old houses and houseboats along the waterways. Kim was most upset not to have seen the smallest house that she recalled from many years ago – only one doorway wide. We did however see one that was a door and window across (I pointed out to Kim) ‘not the sam’ Kim said or maybe it’s closed for renovations or they are enlarging it?? (I think she had been to the Coffee Shop the last time she was there but forgot)
Walked then (double quick time – time is of the essence!) to the Anne Frank house but the line to get into the museum and the house was so long that we couldn’t be bothered waiting. Then took the scenic route through the Red Light district – Sharon wanted to pose for a photo with the ‘ladies’ in the background but were swiftly told by the pimps –‘no photographing the girls’. (Like it’s going to affect their business, me looking stupid from across the road?)
So instead we took a leisurely walk through the coffee-house lined streets inhaling the fragrant aromas that emanated therefrom! I must admit there was a smile on our dials for about 30 minutes after that! (I’m sure it was just knowing we were heading to London in a few hours time!)
Well, got to the airport with time to spare, wrote a few postcards and then headed for the plane that would be taking us to London. Went through the security gate and the second gate: waiting for our boarding call, only to hear over the speaker that we all had to go back out and go through the whole bloody security procedure again as they had a lapse in their security procedure. What -- did one of them fall asleep watching the x-ray machine? (No one could tell us what it was) but when we went through again Sharon was picked for a random (so they said) pat down! J Yes you can all laugh but wait til it happens to you and your so called ‘ friend’ pretends that she doesn’t know you!!!! And walks straight past with a smile.
