Arrived at hotel – lovely view over the Rhine River – only drawback is that the train track was between the river and our room – during the night I timed the very loud rumblings at between 5 and 12 minutes! Needless to say – there was not much sleep that night except for Sharon! She slept quite well tho’ although she did admit hearing a train or 2 in the night or was that Kim counting them?
In the afternoon, we took the cable car up to the Niederwald memorial and temple, fantastic view over the vineyards as we passed overhead. Had a little retail therapy then ate a great meal of 4 different kinds of meat with mushroom sauce and veges. I decided to try their coffee, so let me tell you what was in it: 2 cubes of sugar with their brandy (which I must say had to blow the top of your head off!) then they light that and let it burn till the sugar melts, then add hot coffee to the brandy and last add whipped cream with grated chocolate to the top. Even Kim who doesn’t like coffee enjoyed this one! I must admit walking after that took al ittle bit of concentration on my part!
Wandered around very cute streets listening to the competing German bands in the restaurants – a few couples enjoyed the dancing to the accordion and Beerhall music while we only watched from the sidelines – Sharon wasn’t keen on joining them! She did do a little swaying while watching them mind you.
