Day 22 - RHINE VALLEY BOAT TRIP

Spent a very warm day on a KD Cruise on the Rhine River going from Rudesheim to Cologne.  The first part to Koblenz was the most spectacular – seeing all the ruins of various castles plus other rebuilt castles (mainly having been destroyed by the French a few hundred years ago!) is amazing.

There are so many vineyards from way up the top of the hills which come right down to the bottom of the riverbanks, such steep terrain – I wouldn’t like to have to work in them. There are so many little gorgeous villages along the banks. Weather was very conducive to us sitting at the back of the boat on the sundeck, soaking up the atmosphere. Got a bit sunburnt though.

The second part from Koblenz to Cologne was less interesting and more built-up so had a little snooze inside. The whole trip took all day – started at 10.15am and arrive in Cologne at 8pm. Very tiring doing nothing all day!

Started walking to our hotel and after having asked, the 4th person told us we were on the wrong side of the river!(and that surprises you all) Taxi rescued us and we arrived at our hotel eventually. A guy who was the spitting image of Christopher Lloyd in ‘Back to the Future’ checked us in and while he was doing this one of his little dogs peed up against a statue of a dog! (TRUE) then he gave us our free drink card  (which I might add we needed it after that) We, of course, had to make use of this FREE drink, but had to drink quickly as the smoke in the bar was overwhelming! The German Government had passed a law about smoking inside, but then it was overturned and different areas have their own laws about it. Cologne says – you can choose! Yeah off to bed!!!!!!!
